I’ve gotten a lot of questions from you guys recently asking, “What’s the best post workout meal?” So, like all of your awesome questions, it inspired me to write a blog posting for you guys. It’s important to note that what you eat before and after your workout is really critical to reaching your weight loss, muscle growth or maintenance goals. What your consuming can make or break your results – your workouts alone can only do so much.
I love this blueberry, maca protein smoothie recipe as a post workout meal because it’s delicious, filling and super quick and simple to whip up. I either make it before I go workout and bring it with me in large mason jar OR put all the ingredients in the blender before I leave for the gym and then blend it when I get home.
You want to have your post workout meal as soon as possible after your workout. I try to have mine within 30 minutes – especially when I am training the booty 🙂 If I workout in the morning, this post workout meal is actually my breakfast. But if I am working out during the day, then it’s the perfect snack in between meals.
Post Workout Meal: Ingredients
- 1 to 1.5 cups almond milk (homemade or store bought)
- 2 scoops IN.Power Organic Whey protein powder
- 1/2 banana
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 tsp maca powder
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 handful spinach or 2 dino kale leaves (or both if you want!)
Put all ingredients in a blender & blend. Feel free to add a dash more water or almond milk to reach your desired smoothie consistency.
